China Snow Storm Donation Drive

In January this year, China was hit by its worst snowstorm in 50 years, resulting in over 5.8 million people stranded just before the Lunar New Year. Determined to help our friends in need, the Kinderland family decided to organise a donation drive on 24 March 2008 to play our small part in easing the crisis.

Working together with the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI), all proceeds were consolidated and forwarded to the Chinese Chamber for their follow-up action to the victims in need.

On the actual day, donations came in thick and fast, both from the children’s piggy-banks as well as from compassionate and caring parents alike. The total amount collected from the initiative totaled S$5,000.

On 15 April 2008, 2 children representatives from ELFA and Kinderland each, handed over the donation cheque to the President of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI), Mr Chua Thian Poh, in a simple ceremony at the SCCCI office in Hill Street. In the presence of both the President and the SCCCI Secretary-General Mr Lim Sah Soon, the children were honored to be given such an opportunity to interact personally with such prestigious local leaders.

Out of this exercise, not only did our children learn to appreciate the importance of helping each other in need, but each of them also gained valuable insight into how natural disasters can happen and how they are able to help in their own little way, and how every little cent counts.

Sweet Dreams

  • By Koh Deng Wen:
I dreamt about shopping in Chinatown. I was walking towards MacDonalds when I met my long lost playgroup schoolmate. We went to eat a packet of french fries and drank a milk shake together. This was the happiest moment of my life.

  • By Leshawn Chan:
I dream that I am a Power Ranger. I can fly high in the sky. I see a ghost. I fight with the ghost. The ghost has wings and tail. I am not scared. I am a super Power Ranger in the world. I can change from a boy to a Power Ranger.

Walking Through 100 Days

  • By Ryan Cheng:
Today we learnt about being kind to people in class. We played game in the CMC room.

Lunar New Year

  • By Sophia:
The Chinese celebrate Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year is on the 12th and 13th of February. Before Chinese New Year, we have to prepare and clean the house. Go shopping to buy new clothes. Go market to buy re-union food and goodies. Decorate the house. Lets get ready for celebration!
